What I’ve gleaned from this document

Since they signed with an X, I now know that bride Anne Chapadeau and witnesses Jean Chapadeau, Louis de Lanteigne and Francois Dugaie father and son were illiterate. Anne’s husband Jean Baptiste did sign – although to my modern eyes it is more of a scrawl!

Anne’s father was already deceased on the day of her marriage.

The priest made a notation next to Jean-Baptiste’s name – “allemen” – so I now have more proof that he was German.

The priest’s name was Bourg.

The names in this document are spelled differently than in my other records. Here are some of the alternate spellings for these surnames:

Chapadeau, Chappadeau-Chapados Dugaie, Duguay de Lanteigne, Lanteigne-Lanting

Migkelharte, Migkel Hart-Anglehart La Roc, Larocque

from A Canadian Family Database (almost 20,000 Acadians & French-Canadians)

Jean-Baptiste Anglehart/Migkelharte was the son of Joseph Anglehart/Migkelhart and Marie Anelkawine. Two offspring known to have married and settled down in the Gaspesie (Marie married Alexandre Huard and Jean Baptiste married Louise Blais. 1. Would it be that Jean Chapadeaux and Catherine Larocque had two daus. named Anne? Cf., marriage ca. 1764 of Anne Chapados w/ Pierre Leon Roussy. Some people cite Anne as marrying both Roussy and Anglehart–unlikely I would think.

    • Allo cousine…..
