Mignier dit Lagaces: From La Pocatiere, Quebec to Gloucester Country, New Brunswick (Part 3)

Over the past few weeks I’ve discussed the movement from France to Quebec of Andre Mignier dit Lagace and Jacquette Michel, shared some historical tidbits about Riviere-Ouelle (La Pocatiere) where they settled, and provided some genealogical information about their children and grandchildren.  Today I’m going to continue with some genealogical notes about the next three generations of our direct line beginning with Basile Mignier dit Lagace and his wife Catherine Dube.

As you read below, you’ll see that this is the generation that made the big move from La Pocatiere, Quebec to Gloucester County, New Brunswick. But it wasn’t only our direct ancestors who left La Pocatiere.  Throughout the 1700s most of Andre Mignier’s descendants had been living within reach of each other in the Riviere-Ouelle area, and many are still there today – but by the 1800s  many Mignier/Lagaces  left to settle different parts of Quebec, New Brunswick and even the United States. Here’s our next generation.

  1. I’m trying to find information on a distant relative: Joseph-Lina Boileau that was married to Sophie Mignier-Lagace. They were maried on October 22, 1867 in St-Laurent, Quebec. Sophie’s father was Francois Mignier-Lagace and mother was Sophie Henrichon but their is a mention of an Angelique Levesque. Francois’s parents were Antoine Meunier & mother Suzanne Beautron. Other sister’s of Sophie Mignier-Lagace were named: Henriette, Philomene & Malvina. Sould you have any information concerning this, I would love to see it. Thank You!

  2. Good morning Lyse,
Your name sounds familiar – perhaps we have corresponded or I’ve seen it on Genforum or Rootsweb? I’m just on a little break out of my classroom now so I’ll have to get back to you this evening.
    See you then,

  6. The baptism record for “Louis Minie dit Lagasse” son of “Louis Minie dit Lagasse” and “Magdelaine Levesque” can be found in the Quebec Parish Records on FamilySearch. The location is the folder for Riviere-Ouelle > Notre Dame de Liesse > 1803-1811 > image_74 of 241. The record shows that he was baptized and born on 28 Feb. 1806.

  7. Hi
I just noticed an error at the start of the first generation, Basil Mignier/Lagace
    First Marriage should read
    Madeleine Leclerc 14 jan 1772

Second Marriage Catherine Dube 11 Oct 1779

I,m sure it was not done on purpose but it should be rectified to keep you records acurate and believable so people will appreciate your web site’s accurate account of how their ancestors line decended to them.I happen to come from that same line and probably have some records you have not found. I run BK6 with only 2935 records and 827 marriages on so far. The cost for these records total over $800 so far, but I find it gives me personal pleasure to have records as accurate as possible.
Thank you for your site. I enjoy browsing through to see what I might have incorrect or missing. I do not have a site and am too old to start one. (dont know how)I will be checking your site piece by piece and will match it with my Bk6 and infom you of anything missing or mismatched if it pertains to records I have on hand.

    • Thank you for your comments, Leo.
As you will have noticed, my dates are all accurate – the error was one of wording in that my Legacy program switched the “first marriage” & “second marriage” wording around because that is the order in which I had input them into my database.
I’ve changed the wording and formatting for the first marriage and added a link to the microfilmed document so that all should now be clear.
      Have a nice day!
      Evelyn

  10. Well I finally broke through my brick wall only to hit it 2 seconds later.
I could not find info on my grandpa James Lagaces line. The when the New Brunswick archives updated more photos, it showed his marriage record to Louisa Savoie, my grandma, and showed that his parents names were Pierre Lagace & Sara Daigle….and thats my brick wall.

    • Today doing another search at the PANB, I was able to find Pierre’s father & mother.
Their names are Issac Lagace & Honora Daly.

  11. If anyone has a source citing the parents of my Lagace 2great grandmother, I would appreciate hearing from you. I’ve posted before in Evelyn’s blog about it, as well as elsewhere. She appears in the parish records both by the names Celeste Lagace and Sara Anne Lagace as the first wife of Francois-Xavier Roy (b 03 Sep 1834, Petit-Rocher, NB). We know from parish records that she died in Bonaventure, Quebec on 08 Nov 1877 at about 44 years old, and of course she does not appear in the 1881 Canada Census that lists her widower husband and children. F. Xavier was a shoemaker and farmer as well as a bedeau (some position within the RC church). He later married Elisabeth Duguay with whom he had more children and appears in the 1901 Canada Census.

It has been proposed that Celeste’s parents were Francois Lagace and Mathilde Boudreau, although I have not seen any written evidence of this. Her approximate birth year could fit into a gap in the published records that I have seen for their children. Other than that, I am at a brick wall with her. I have been unable to find either her birth record or her marriage record with F. Xavier Roy, either of which could list her parents.

    Thanks,
    Robert Engelhardt
