  1. Hi, I think I have a connection to some of the Kahnawake Iroquois you mention on your website – particularly the Rices. My g-g-grandmother was Marguerite(Konwakeri) Montour Rice, married to Thomas (Atonwa Onharakete) Rice, and they lived at Kahnawake before moving away south and eventually settling in Cleveland.

I don’t have all the information immediately available at my fingertips, but just based on some of your postings here, I’m pretty sure that there is some relation. If you’d like to contact me back, I’d appreciate it! In the meantime, I can hunt down some of the information that I do have and can give you some more that might be helpful.

Note from Evelyn: Contacted by email.

  4. Hello. My great grandfather was named John Joseph Rice. He married Selina Cox in Quebec City in 1904. The parents and identity of John Joseph Rice are a mystery. However, my research leads to Chateauguay area. John Joseph Rice had three children: Oscar Leslie Rice, Robert John Rice and Selina Annie Cox Rice. Oscar Leslie Rice had the Nu-Way Restaurant and tobacco shop on Chateauguay Road in 1940s. Oscar Leslie Rice and Robert John Rice also worked for rhe CPR Railway in Montreal. I have photo of daughter Selina Annie Rice and have other family photos bearing resemblance to Rice family of Khanawake. Any assistance or referrals would be appreciated.

    • Hello Evelyn: I have not been working on my family tree for 2 years now so my memory is a little “rusty” and I can’t reply to the comment that has been made except to say I remember the name Rice coming up somewhere out there. Sorry I can’t contribute anything relevant at this time. Sincerely, Joyce Newell Sundheim.
