  6. A couple people here are looking for more info on Martin’s. I have a Polly Martin born 1766 and died in St. Albans, VT April 25, 1855. She was married to Richard Whittemore who was born in 1768 in Salem, MA and died in St Albans, VT on Jan. 4, 1805. Polly apparently didn’t remarry as she is buried in the Whittemore plot in St Alban’s, Calvary cemetery. I have tried in vain to find Polly’s ancestors. The closest I come is on a census in which a man by the name of Knott Martin COULD have been her father.

If anyone knows of this Martin family please contact me…. Thank you, Lynn

      • In the past yes, I have been doing ancestry research like crazy, my fiancee’s family are native american, his grandparents and his father are all full blooded, they are Mohawk. His grandfather & great grandfather and their families lived there. My fiancee’s mother’s side I know aren’t Mohawk, they are Blackfoot (Picard’s), so I’m mainly focusing on finding the records from the reservation or finding anything that can help show proof of residency from his grandparents and great grandparents. I do have the ancestry tree practically done, and do know even your last name I have seen in there through marriage. Thank you for replying, hope this helps some..

    • Is there a more accurate resource where I can find my Mohawk ancestry. I am métis. French Mohawk. When I look and my father and grandfather I see we look different that other white people. Our skin is alittle darker and we have the nose haha. I found some data before and now I can’t find it. Poirier & Payette.. My family is forgetting our mohawk roots.

      • Hello,
There is no one single resource listing Mohawk or Metis marriages. The key is just to climb your family tree and the locations or annotations on vital records or census documents provide evidence.
If you think it is in your direct line you can let me know and I might be able to help.

    • I have had occasion to peruse Mariages de Saint-François-Xavier du Sault-Saint-Louis : Caughnawaga-Kahnawake, 1735-1972 by Marthe F Beauregard. You will find McGregor’s there but the list is just a list as stated in the title. One has to determine family connections with other documents. We have Anne’s marriage to C-N Guillaume de LORIMIER 27:II:1801 Kahnawake. Their daughter Louise Karantha/Karennatha de LORIMIER married Louis Pierre DESPAROIS 28:XI:1821. One of their children, Françoise Henriette DESPAROIS married David MEUNIER-LAFLEUR 10:IX:1851.
We are interested in the antecedents to Peter/Pierre McGregor. (Anne is listed on a Canadian govt history site under the surname Gregoire but this is not a fruitful clue for Pierre’s ancestry. He is identified as a captive from Deerfield taken along with his sister but there is no McGregor listed in the historical cemetery data. We believe the identification may be erroneous as the earliest sources do not state this as directly as do later writers.)
Louise K. & Louis Desparois had 11 children. Besides F-H we have 2 marriages: Louis George DESPAROIS (7·XII·1822 Kahnawake – ?)= (date inconnu) Appoline de JEAN; Marie Louise Marguerite DESPAROIS (c.1831 ?Chateauguay – ?) = (25·XI·1862 Chateauguay) William MCCOMBER.
We have no info on the other children & their possible families. Besides Beauregard there is:
Repertoire des mariages de Kahnawake (Mission Saint-Francois-Xavier du Sault Saint-Louis) de 1735 a 1899 by Pierre Bernard but at the moment I’ve no idea where a copy might be available.

  14. My name is Tim LaCroix. The earliest records I can find on my ancestry come from Mackinaw Island, Michigan with Francis LaCroix. His father married a woman by the name of Angelique. I cannot find anything further back from that. This was during the early 1800s. Francis LaCroix was born in the late 1700s. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Mothers name is Leslie French, grandmother Joyce French, great grandfather Duncan French,3x grandfather Issac French, then Pierre French, finally Jean Baptiste Guiles/GailsFrench. I’m trying to place One Joe French an ironworker who died building the Quebec Bridge in 1907 along with 32 Mohawk ironworkers.
