Evelyn in Montreal: Jean Hudon dit Beaulieu m. Marie-Anne Lizotte (N.B. 1865)

Query from

Hi, I am looking for my great great grandfather’s family. I got his name in the Drummond, NB Church books. His name is Jean Hudon who was adopted by a Beaulieu Family. They lived in Riviere Ouelle, QC. I know he married Marie-Anne Lizotte in St-Basile, NB in 1865. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

1. I believe that rather than being adopted, it is probable that Jean was actually named Jean Hudon dit Beaulieu, and that he is from the lineage that eventually  took the surname of Beaulieu (as opposed to those who now call themselves Hudons.

2.  You can google these names and find various messages such as this one at the Rootsweb Message Board –

You should be able then to find someone who has specialized in these names.

3. On this site (A Canadian Family) your Riviere Ouelle Hudons are mentioned here:

The Battle of Riviere-Ouelle
Riviere-Ouelle: Une Paroisse Canadienne au XVII Siecle

4. This image from http://www.cuslm.ca/hoteldieustbasile/en/expositions/image2.php?id=1009

may be related to your Jean Hudon.

  2. They actually married January 25, 1853 in Saint-Basile, NB and in the Drummond church centennial books it does state that he was a Hudon who was taken in by a Beaulieu family and then assumed the Beaulieu name.
