In 1901, Joseph and Delvica were living in Caughnawaga along with their two daughters Eglantine and Helene and their son Joseph. Their next door neighbours included another French Canadian family – the Viaus.

Joseph Belanger and Delvica Mallette had been married a few years earlier on June 24th, 1895 in St-Francois-Xavier Church in Caughnawaga. His parents were Octave Belanger and Marie-des-Anges Boulanger. She was the daughter of Jean-Baptiste Mallette and Rose-de-Lima Hebert.
