Mr. Justice de Lorimier Comments on Ability of Plaintiff to Travel Despite Alleged Injuries

Beaten near the Caughnawaga highway, Magloire Poirier identified Joseph Boudrias as his assailant and sued him for $530, but Mr. Justice de Lorimier, of the Superior Court, dismissed his action for lack of positive identification of Boudrias as the aggressor and commented on the fact that despite his allege injuries, Poirier was able to come to Montreal on the same afternoon to consult a lawyer.

Poirier alleged that on September 22, 1930, at Caughnawaga, near the main highway Boudrias attacked him maliciously without cause, striking him on the head and shoulders with a metal bar while he was stooping to remove a small gate. Later, he claimed, Boudrias boasted of having kicked hm on the head. Continue reading

Montreal Officers Arrest Desperate Character

MONTREAL, Aug.18 – At large for the last twelve months, after having escaped from the asylum, Osias Beaudin, charged with having poisoned cattle belonging to Pierce Bourette, at the Caughnawaga Reserve, was arrested last night at St. Agnes de Dundee by High Constable St. Mars, and Deputy Constable Cyr.  The accused will be brought before the court of sessions Thursday for trial. They Passed Through Kahnawake: Samuel Thurston and Mathilde Charlebois

In 1911, Samuel Thurston and Mathilde Charlebois were living in Caughnawaga. Samuel’s parents were Samuel Thurston and Sophie Saurette/Larose while Mathilde was the daughter of Eustace Charlebois and Malvina Desjardins. They had been married in Ste-Elisabeth-du-Portugal Church in Montreal on November 8th, 1897. The census describes Samuel as English and Mathilde as French and states that they are farmers.
