John.A. Canadian of Caughnawa, son of the late “Big John” Canadian, who gained a world-wide reputation by jumping the Lachine Rapids in a canoe, died yesterday afternoon at Saint-Mary’s Hospital at the age of 72.

He himself also had  a daring reputation because he had accompanied his father in several of his voyages over the rapids.

He was born in Caughnawaga and received an education in Liverpool, England. After his return from Europe at the age of 24 years, he because an assistant to the chief engineer at Canadian Pacific in Montreal. He retired ten years ago after 35 years of service.

He leaves behind his wife Mary French, a son John (of Cleveland) and five daughters. These include Mrs. Joseph Jacobs and Mrs. Cyprien Filiatrault of Caughnawaga, Mrs. E. Robin and Mrs. Antonio Jodoin of Montreal and Mrs. William Newell of Kansas.
