This is a series of micro posts about the pioneers of Shippagan in Gloucester County, New Brunswick. Each post is organized around initial information from Msg. Donat Robichaud’s Le Grand Chipagan: Histoire de Shippagan, supplemented with genealogical data from F. Theriault’s Les Families de Caraquet and is now being gradually enriched with information from other sources. These are mostly French-language sources and some aren’t easily available, so if you need more information please leave your questions in a comment box below 🙂
There are three early Godin couples in Shippegan – Alexandre Godin (prob. the son of Pierre Godin and Ann Robertson) and Anne DeGrace, Pierre Godin (son of Jean-Baptiste Godin and Rosalie Theriault) and Anne Robertson (daughter of James Robertson and Helene Morrison).
Alexandre Godin and Anne DeGrace‘s children included:

- Joseph (m. Helene Robinson, daughter of Thomas Robinson and Olive Brault),

Pierre Godin and Anne Robertson‘s children were:
- James (m. Philomene Hache, daughter of Sebastien Hache and Marthe Chiasson),
- Pierre (m. Marie Leger).

I am great granddaughter of Francois, son of Alexandre and Anne, through his daughter Muriel Emily (GOODWIN) DOBSON. Francois moved to Saint John and changed his name to Francis John GOODWIN and worked for the Saiit John Public Works at time of his death. I am interesting in learning why he moved and changed his name and when.

Hello Evelyn, Francois was born 8 Dec 1870 in Shippigan, and died 9 Oct 1929 in Saint John.
