Montminy & Deniger | Evelyn in Montreal

Robert Mitchell said:

I recently found what I believe to be the birth record of my 3-greats-grandfather, Edward (Edouard) Montminy in the L’Acadie, Quebec church records. He’s listed as “Joseph Edouard Montminy”, born October 24, 1803 to Pierre Montminy and Marguerite Deniger. It was earlier believed that her maiden name was “Lemieux,” apparently from a translation of Edward’s marriage record to Zoe Campbell (dated February 28, 1832 in L’Acadie), which lists her as such. The record also notes that Marguerite was deceased at that time, so maybe they remembered her maiden name wrong.

The mystery is that I couldn’t find any other children listed in the L’Acadie records for Pierre Montminy and Marguerite Deniger, nor a marriage record. Could all their other children have been registered in another town nearby? (e.g. Saint-Phillipe, Saint-Luc, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Candiac, La Prairie…) The Montminy family appears prominent in L’Acadie, and there appears to be more than one Pierre Montminy there in that same time frame. Can anyone help me connect my Pierre to the Montminy family?

Information

According to the BMS 2000 index, the parents of the Edouard Montminy who married Zoe Campbell in 1832, are Pierre Montminy and Marguerite LEMIEUX.

This is one of a series of posts organized under the heading Evelyn in Montreal where I chronicle some of the work I have done with other family historians and genealogists. Some information is original to this site but some has previously appeared at Genforum, Rootsweb and other genealogy boards. I am reproducing them here as those boards are closing down in order to preserve my connections with those family researchers.
