Caraquet history

The Acadians Pierre Pinet (a navigator) and Marie Vienneau (daughter of Michel Vienneau and Therese Baude) were married in St. Charles-de-Bellechasse, Quebec. Pierre’s parents were Charles dit Lejeune and Marie Testard of Grand-Pre (Acadia). Pierre’s first wife had been Monique Trahan (daughter of Jean-Baptiste Trahan and Marie-Joseph Boudreau).

Pierre Pinet and Marie Vienneau had the following children: Pierre, Marie (m. Francois Cormier, son of Pierre Cormier and Anne-Marie Gaudet), Pierre, Dominique (m. Rose Boudreau, daughter of Joseph Boudreau and Anne Hache), Pierre, Genevieve (m. Jean-Baptiste Theriault, son of Joseph Theriault and Marie-Joseph Girouard), Pierre (m. Barbe Dugas, daughter of of Joseph Dugas and Agathe Landry), Marguerite (m. Pierre Theriault and then Joseph Landry), Francoise (m. Thomas Cormier, son of Jean Cormier and Anastasie Aucoin) and Euphrosine (m. Jean-Baptiste Paulin, son of Jean-Baptiste Paulin and Isabelle Gasse).

These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes.
