The Parises | Pioneers of Caraquet

Index: Pioneer Families of Caraquet

These micro posts present the first generations of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. If you don’t have access to the book you can contact me for extra information by leaving a comment underneath this post.

The Parise pioneering couple descended from Quebeckers from St-Louis-de-Kamouraska. Michel-Ignace Parise was the son of Gilles Parise and Julienne Chevrier of Paris, France. He married  Angelique Michaud, daughter of Pierre Michaud and Madeleine Lalime Thibodeau. Their children included: Genevieve, Michel (m. Marie Albert, daughter of Gabriel Albert and Genevieve Bouthillier), Angelique, Marie, Rosalie, Louis, Remi and finally Agathe. Michel-Ignace’s son Michel Parise married Marie Albert (daughter of Gabriel Albert and Genevieve Bouthillier).

The Caraquet children of Michel Parise and Marie Albert were:

  • Genevieve (m. Pierre-Leon Roussi, son of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau),
  • Michel (m. Rosalie Roussi, daughter of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau, and then Louise Grenier),
  • Angelique (m. Louis Roussi, son of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau and then
  • Francois Duguay, son of Francois Duguay and Madeleine Chapadeau),
  • Marie (m. Jean Lanteigne, son of Louis Lanteigne and Marguerite Chapadeau),
  • Rosalie (m. Pierre Paulin, son of Jean-Baptiste Paulin and Isabelle Gasse),
  • Louis (m. Madeleine Roussi, daughter of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau),
  • Remi (m. Archange Duguay, daughter of Pierre Duguay and Josette LeBrasseur),
  • Agathe (m. Edouard Bouthillier, son of Rene Bouthillier and Genevieve Chiasson).

    • I bought it about 15 years ago so I don’t really know. Sorry!
In the meantime is there a specific family you’re looking for? Did you want more information on the Parises?
I could look for the book and add more. I was thinking of doing a “Caraquet month” on the blog and add a lot more information 🙂

    • Hello Grace!
Yes it is on this site in the sense that my focus for the month was to be posts on Caraquet (adding to the various pioneers, map of the land grants etc.) however unfortunately due to family demands I’ve had to take a bit of a multi-week break. I hope to get back to this project next week.
If you have a specific surname you’re interested in please drop me a line and I’ll move it to the front of the queue 🙂

      • I can put the Parises at the top of the list if you need information on that.
