Reader Query: Canadien Tanahokathe, Louis-Alexandre m. Guerin Celine

Query:

Can you tell me about a Celine Guerin who married a Louis Alexander Thonahokathe? My paternal grandmother was Emma Guerin. What native name is thonahokathe? Thank you very much. Jennifer Burl

The Tanahokathe name is associated with the famous CANADIEN surname of Kahnawake. Here is the Tanahokathe Canadien/Guerin marriage:

Louis-Alexandre Tanahokathe (son of Jean-Baptiste Raintonni-Canadien and Malvina McComber) married Celine Guerin (daughter of Denis Guerin and Melanise Perras) on February 17th, 1895 in St. Francois-Xavier Parish in Kahawake (Laprairie, Quebec). Celine’s first husband was Israel Rice.

I’ve photographed  Alexandre Canadien’s headstone.

The couple also appears in this Canadien family tree.

To your question for more information about Celine, here is her first marriage:

Israel Rice (son of Jean-Baptiste Taiaiake and Marie-Anne Macomber) married Celine Guerin (daughter of Denis Guerin and Melanise Perras) on March 8th, 1886 in St. Francois-Xavier Parish.

Also, based on Celina’s record in the 1901 census where she states she was born on February 26th in 1866, I have identified this couple as her parents –

Denys Guerin and Berenice Perras listed as parents of Marie Celina Guerin born on February 26th, 1866 and baptized the day after in La-Nativite-de-la-Ste-Vierge in La Prairie, Quebec. Godparents: Charles Giasson and Rose de Lima Riel.

Here is the Guerin/Perras marriage –

Denis Guerin (son of Joachim Guerin and Catherine Viau) married Marie Berenice Perras (daughter of Leon Perras and Marguerite Dupuis) on September 24th, 1850 in La-Nativitie-de-la-Ste-Vierge Parish in La Prairie.

    • Hello!
I had sent you a last email which remains unanswered – perhaps it ended up in your junkmail?
      Your email –
“Dear Evelyn, thank you so much! Can you now help me find out If Celine Guerin was in my ancestry background? I have only been able to search so far. My paternal grandmother was Emma Guerin who married Ernest Burl, she died young from tuberculosis. My grandfather remarried. Emma’s parents were Arthur and delia Guerin. I have not been able to find information about delias maiden name. I am most interested to know if Celine is in my blood line. I am so grateful for help, no one ever helped me uncover my lineage. Jennifer Burl

      My answer

    • Dear Evelyn, I am sorry but I am not certain about the e-mail you were referring to. I wonder if all the Guerins from Canada are related. I am trying to learn if Celine Guerin was a relation. I must say, this all can be completed. You are so kind to help all who have reached out to you .

    • Good evening Jennifer!
At the moment I’m busily finishing off the website – I need to back up thousands of posts AND I’m trying to edit/revise old posts.
A short answer to one of your questions is that there isn’t any way to be sure that all Guerins are related because Guerins could have come from France at any time.
I do not have a single family tree of all the Guerins or a full tree for Celine Guerin. So connecting the two would mean having to start with your specific information of your line and then see if it connects through documents. That’s something I could eventually look into – but not for the moment.
My plan is to keep finishing the site and then I will stop adding information and start working on these genealogy problems 🙂
