These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. The Chiassons are one of the oldest Acadian families in Canada. The Caraquet Chiassons descend from  Guyon Chiasson dit Lavallee (son of Pierre Chiasson and Marie Peroche of La Rochelle, France) and Marie Belliveau (daughter of Antoine Belliveau and Andree Guyon) who were married in Port-Royal, Acadia about 1665.

The founding Caraquet couple are Joseph Chiasson (son of Francois Chiasson and Anne Doucet) and Anne Hache (daughter of Charles Hache and Genevieve Laverne).

They had the following children:

  • Genevieve (m.about 1766, Rene Bouthillier, son of Joseph Bouthillier  and Angelique Giraud dit St-Jean)
  • Nicolas (m.1784,  Genevieve Gionet, daughter of Francois Gionet and Anne LeVicaire)
  • Jean Chrysostome (m. Anne Daigle, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Daigle and Marie Trahan)
  • Pelagie / Helene (m.about 1793, Louis Paulin, son of Jean-Baptiste Paulin and Elisabeth Gasse) and then (m.1810, Francois Frigault, son of Pierre Frigault and Josette Bouthillier)
  • Adelaide (m.1792, Joseph Hache, son of Louis Hache and Anne Chiasson)
  • Louise-Divine / Ludivine (m.1792, Joseph Paulin, son of Jean-Baptiste Paulin and Elisabeth Gasse)
  • Paul (m.1797, Elisabeth Roussi, daughter of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau)
  • Beloni (m.1807, Felicite Albert, daughter of Pierre Albert and Genevieve Denis)
  • Rene (m.aoubt 1813, Marie Gobeille)
