The St. Pierres (dit Dessein) | Pioneer Families of Caraquet

Index: Pioneer Families of Caraquet

These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. If you don’t have access to the book you can contact me for extra information by leaving a comment underneath this post.

The Caraquet St. Pierres descend from Joseph St. Pierre dit Dessein, son of Jean-Raphael St. Pierre and Madeleine Santerre of Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatiere, Quebec and Julie Levesque, daughter of Benoit Levesque and Marie LeBrun. They were married in Riviere-Ouelle on April 10th, 1809. The couple settled in Bertrand, but their offspring settled in Pokemouche.

Their children were:

  • Julie (m. Lambert Pelletier, St. Louis-de-Kamouraska, before 1861)
  • Jean (m. Marguerite Saulnier, daughter of Alexis Saulnier and Charlotte Comeau)
  • Antoine (m. Mary Rodgers, daughter of Charles Rodgers and Catherine Finn, 1849)
  • Georges (m. Charlotte Hache, daughter of Jean Hache and Sophie Legere, 1842)
  • Osithe (m. Daniel Savoie, son of Joseph Savoie and Anastasie Robichaud, about 1839)
  • Priscille (m. Dosithee Robichaud, son of Leon Robichaud and Blanche Dugas, 1842)
  • Eusebe (m. Angele Hache, 1849)
  • Dominique dite Lucille (m. Francois Blanchard, son of Jean-Baptiste Blanchard and Genevieve Landry)
  • Marie (m. Alexis Albert, son of Hilarion Albert and Marie-Claire Landry, 1851)
  • Bruno (m. Adonise Duguay, daughter of Pierre Bonaventure and Suzanne Roussel, 1851)
