These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. Caraquet history


The Caraquet Blaquieres descend from Pierre Blaquiere (son of Maxime Blaquiere of Matapedia) and his first wife Marie Jeannette Doiron (daughter of Christin Doiron and Sara LeBouthillier) and his second wife Christine Ferguson (widow of Jules Lanteigne).

Pierre and Jeannette Doiron were married in 1870 and had the following children:

  • Sara (born 1871)
  • Rosanne (m. Theotime Paulin, son of Gervais Paulin and Marie Doiron)
  • Marie-Anne, adopted daughter (m. 1888, Sebastien Doiron, son of Eugene Doiron, formerly married to Marie LeBouthillier) and (m. 1903, Andre Degrace, formerly married to Luce Chiasson)

Pierre and Christine Ferguson were married in 1876 and had two children:

  • Helene (born 1877)
  • Joseph David (born 1886, died in infancy)
