These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. Caraquet history

The Caraquet Nixons descend from Robert Watson Nixon of Downpatrick, North Ireland (son of Robert Nixon and Mary Watson) and Jane Blackhall (son of James Blackhall and Mary Synnet). They were married in about 1856.

Their children were:

  • James Watson (m. 1914, Annie Sewell)
  • Margaret Helen (unmarried)
  • Robert S. (married in Canobie)
  • Minnie / Mary Blanche (m. Charles Brien, son of Pierre-Esprit Brien and Marie-Louise LeRoy of Jersey)
  • Hugh J. (m. in Canobie)
  • Thomas B. (m. North Dakota)
