- 1. A recognized line of Ontario Metis Desjardins descends from the couple Louis Desjardins and Marie Legris Prisque through their offspring: Jean Baptiste Desjardins (m. Jane Alice Roi & Louise St. Onge), Louis Desjardins (m. Angeline Letour), Julie Desjardins (m. Charles Wilson), Mary Jane Desjardins (m. Louis Revelle), Suzanne Desjardins (m. Thomas Louis McLeod & Stephen King).
- 2. A second lineage of Desjardins who are recognized by the Metis Nation of Ontario, descend from the forebears: Charles Desjardins and Angelique Lavallee. They had the following married offspring: Catherine Desjardins (m. William Jones), Charles Desjardins (m. Marie Kigamigok and Ann Nodin), David Desjardins (m. Anna Jane Laronde), Louis Desjardins (m. Rosalie Boucher), Louise Desjardins (m. Moise Neodegijig), Magdalene Desjardins (m. Jean Akiwars) and Peter Desjardins (m. Florence Boucher and Abigail Anna Johnson).
- 3. One anglicized version of Desjardins is “Gardiner”. Some Desjardins are “dit Desjarlais”
- 4. One Metis couple were Peter Gardiner dit Desjardins / Desjarlais (prob. son of Francois-Xavier “Minock” Desjarlais and Francoise Oke Ne Kih Kwe Bottineau) and his wife Rosalie Malaterre (daughter of Jean Baptiste Malaterre and Therese Comtois. Rosalie’s first husband had been William Blandion. Peter and Rosalie were part of the Canyon Metis community in Teton County, Montana [Source: Peter Gardiner dit Desjardins (Desjarlais) and Rosalie Malaterre, Lawrence Barkwell, Louis Riel Institute].

In his article Metis Residents of Charleswood (St. Charles Parish), Lawrence Barkwell includes “Desjardins, François, was born on March 30, 1846 the son of Jean Baptiste Desjardin and Marguerite Hamelin. He married Marguerite Leclerc (Leclair) the daughter of Joseph Leclair. In 1870 the family was living on Lot 64 in St. Charles now Charleswood. François’ father-in-law Joseph Leclair was living on Lot 69″
