SURNAME NOTES | GUIMOND
- Surname lists: Surname Anchor Posts, Metis (ON)
- Regions: Manitoba, Ontario, Western Canada
- Ethnicity: Metis, Ojibwa, Saulteaux
- Associated surnames: Bear, Cochrane, Courchene, Fontaine, Johnston, Jourdain, Keeper, Linklater, Potvin, Raymond, Swampy, Vincent.
- Misc.: 1. The known Metis line of Red River Guimonds begins with two Joseph Guimond (prob. French Canadian) and his wife Marie Charette (origin unknown) through their children: Augustin Guimond (m. First Nations Woman, Mary Anne), Frances Guimond (m. Moise Fontaine) and descendants who married into First Nations lineages. 2. An alternative French spelling for Guimond is “Guimont”, 2. The Red River Ancestry site suggest that J. Guimond was likely a French Canadian from Quebec. I wonder (and this is pure speculation) whether he might have been a New Brunswick Guimond.
