  • Misc.:  1. There are recognized Western Metis who descend from the couple Benjamin Marchand (French Canadian) and Marianne Nadeau (Metis) who were married in 1821.  2. Variations of the Marchand surname include Marchant and the English translation Merchant 3. The Algonquin Marchands in the region of Maniwaki descend from Louis Nicolas Marchand (son of Hyacinthe Marchand Julie Lahaie) and Angele / Angelina Ethier (daughter of Michel Ethier and Tarcille Charron [Source: Jean-Guy Paquin].  4. The Hudson’s Bay Company has a brief service record for a Benjamin Marchand (Metis). Note: HBC service records relate to employees who worked in traditional indigenous territories and who may or may not have started mixed-heritage families.
