  • 1. There are recognized Western Metis who descend from the couple Benjamin Marchand (French Canadian) and Marianne Nadeau (Metis) who were married in 1821.
  • 2. Variations of the Marchand surname include Marchant and the English translation Merchant.
  • 3. The Algonquin Marchands in the region of Maniwaki descend from Louis Nicolas Marchand (son of Hyacinthe Marchand Julie Lahaie) and Angele / Angelina Ethier (daughter of Michel Ethier and Tarcille Charron [Source: Jean-Guy Paquin].
  • 4. The Hudson’s Bay Company has a brief service record for a Benjamin Marchand (Metis).
