  • 1. The Montagnais Bacons descend from Louis-Denis Bacon (son of Eustache Bacon & Marguerite Rancourt) and a Metis woman Catherine Bersiamiskueu (daughter of Etienne Kamishta-Ustigan / Peltier and Gertrude Atiteru). Mixed-heritage couples include Denis Bacon who married Rose Munro (Metis), and Benjamin Bacon and Metis woman Charlotte Crepeau.
  • 2.  My marriage database contains both Innu Montagnais First Nations individuals as well as mixed Montagnais / French marriages as listed in a study by the Communauté Métisse du Domaine du Roy et de la Seigneurie de Mingan.  Some mixed French/Montagnais descendants self-identify as Metis (see Etienne Rivard’s discussion paper).
