  • 1. The Red River Breland Metis lineages descend from Pierre Duboishue dit Breland / Berland, and his unnamed wife and two named wives. Here are three lineages:
    • a) Jean Baptiste Onesime Breland who married Suzanne Nipissing and then Cecile Bruyere descends from Pierre Duboishue dit Breland and an unnamed wife.  
    • b) Pierre Duboishue dit Breland and Louise Humphreyville‘s offspring were:  Madelaine Duboishue dit Breland (m. Charles Houle) and Marie Anne Breland (m. Richard Grant).
    • c) Pierre Duboishue dit Breland and wife Louise-Josephte Belly’s offspring included Alexandre Duboishue Berland (m. Amelie / Emelie Wells) and Pascal Breland (m. Maria Grant). 
  • 2.  The 1885 North-West Resistance by the Metis and the Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika peoples took place against a backdrop of starvation, broken treaties and encroachment by new settlers in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The resistance fighters eventually lost and Canada’s federal government asserted its control over the area. Several Metis Brelands were involved in the Resistance including: Gilbert Breland / Berland (m. Felicite Boyer), Josue Breland (m. Marie-Flavie Dauphinais) and Marguerite Breland (m.
