    • 2. The Red River Montours are said to descend from the fur trader Nicholas Montour and a First Nations woman. Montours were present in Pembina (Minn., USA).
    • 3. Several Montours fought in the Metis Resistance including: Abraham Montour Sr. (m. Marie Page), Abraham Montour Jr. (m. Lucie Parenteau), Alexandre Montour, Bernard Montour (m. Marguerite Smith), Jean-Baptiste Montour (m. Christine Parenteau), Joseph Montour (x 2), Julie Montour (m. Andre Sansregret dit Pontbriand), Marie Madeleine Montour (m. Hilaire Patenaude), Marie Montour (m. Gregoire Falcon), Pascal Montour Sr. (m. Madeleine Richard) and Pascal Montour Jr. (m. Judith Dumont).  The 1885 North-West Resistance included Metis and other indigenous peoples (Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika) and was in response to broken treaties, starvation and encroachment on their lands by new settlers in what are now Saskatchewan and Alberta.
