- Misc.: –
- 1. The Cardinal surname is quite large and distributed right across Canada so please consider the information below as only a sampling of Cardinal marriage and census records.
- 2. The 1885 North-West Resistance by the Metis and the Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika peoples took place against a backdrop of starvation, broken treaties and encroachment by new settlers in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The resistance fighters eventually lost and Canada’s federal government asserted its control over the area. Metis Cardinals involved in the Resistance included: Alexandre Cardinal (m. Elise Moreau), Maria Cardinal / Fleury (m. Francois Peh-ye-sis Desjarlais) and Sophia Cardinal (m. Fred Samuel Ballendine).
