  • Two Richard couples were involved with the 1885 Resistance. They were Antoine Richard (m. Betsy Fidler) and Madeleine Richard (m. Pascal Montour, Sr.). The 1885 North-West Resistance by the Metis and the Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika peoples took place against a backdrop of starvation, broken treaties and encroachment by new settlers in Saskatchewan and Alberta.   1. Many of my ancestors are from Canada, including Pierre Jonah (known under various names.) Pierre and his family fled from Montbeliard. They sailed to Canada on the Speedwell.
