The Algonquin Leclairs descend from Benjamin Leclair / Leclerc and Therese Francois / Kontagish [Source: Jean-Guy Paquin]. 2. The earliest Leclair settlers in the Metis Red River region were Joseph Leclair / Leclerc (son of Alexis Leclair & Marguerite Dugas) and Therese Huppe (daughter of Joseph Huppe & Marguerite Marcellais). the Metis line begins with their son Francois Xavier Leclerc / Leclair and his Metis wife Marguerite Mercredi. The Metis Nation of Ontario Metis recognizes Benjamin Leclerc and Therese Kontagishisish as a Metis root couple. They descend through their offspring: Angelique Leclerc (m.
