These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates) and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. If you don’t have access to the book you can contact me for extra information by leaving a comment underneath this post.
Marcel Caron and his first wife Rosalie Vicq were the earliest Caraquet Carons. Marcel was from the Jersey Islands. He was a blacksmith and tinsmith. The couple were married in 1886. Marcel next married Marie Paulin (daughter of Gervais Paulin and Marie Doiron). In 1881 he was living with his family in the home of Gervais H. Lanteigne and a fellow Jersey Islander by the name of John Lloyd. he later became the owner of what had been the English school and turned it into a home.
Marcel Caron and Rosalie Vicq’s children were:
- Georges Josue
- Anne Louise (m.1901, Andre Arsenault, son of Vital Arsenault and Louise Ferguson)
- Marie Josephine Aimee (d.1886)
- Leontine F. Lanteigne (adopted daughter) (m. 1921, Elie H. Cormier, son of Honore Cormier and Charlotte Doiron)

Query from John Nelson:
“Has anyone out there ever come across a Caroline Desrosieres married to a Magloire Caron in Quebec circa. late 18th century to early 19th century? There is a daughter, Angelique Caron who married Alexandre Rossignol 9/10/1810 in St-Roch des Aulnaies. The parish records of St-Roch reportedly lists this Caron-Desrosieres couple as her parents. This is contrary to some personal information I received from another genforum user.” Continue reading
