The Guignards (Dignards) | Pioneer Families of Shippegan

The earliest Guignard couple in Shippegan were Michel or Pierre Guignard (son of Pierre Guignard and Genevieve Mignier dit Lagace of Kamouraska (Quebec) and Marie Bourg (daughter of Joseph Bourg and Catherine Comeau). They were married in 1792 in Bonaventure, Quebec. Michael Guignard was married a second time to Anne Daigle (widow of Chrysostome Chiasson).

Michel and Marie had the following children: Pierre Michel (m. Marguerite Savoie, daughter of Joseph Savoie and Marguerite Bujold) and then (m. Madeleine Robichaud, daughter of Jean Robichaud and Marie Bourgeois),

Victoire (m. Frederic Bourdages, son of Benjamin Bourdages and Esther Bujold), Marie Genevieve (m. Thomas Power, son of James Power and Marguerite Quinlan), Joseph (m. Marguerite Breau), Esther (m. Jean-Louis Duguay), Jean-Baptiste (m. Judith Savoie), Rufin (m. Madeleine Grenier, daughter of Francois and Victoria Grenier) and then (m. Gillette Savoie), Marguerite (m. Edouard Godin, widower of Lazare Chiasson), Marie-Claire (m. Benjamin Robichaud, son of Jean Robichaud and Marie Bourgeois), Urbain.

The Plourdes | Pioneers of Caraquet

Index: Caraquet, New Brunswick

The Caraquet Plourdes descend from the French-Canadian pioneering couple Rene Plourde and Jeanne Marguerite Berube. Two Plourde brothers (Beloni and Stanislas Plourde) who had married two sisters (Marguerite and Adelaide Jean) in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec eventually settled in Caraquet. Continue reading

Pierre Guignard (aka Dignard) was the son of Pierre Guignard and Genevieve Mignier dit Lagace of Kamouraska, Quebec. The earliest Caraquet Jeans were from a group who came from Quebec at the end of the 1830s in the midst of a severe economic crisis. They settled in various communities in the area. The Caraquet founding couple were Pierre Jean (son of Regis Jean and Marie-Joseph Gauvin) who had married Rosalie Rose Lepage (daughter of Antoine Lepage and Catherine Nolet) while still in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec. Chiasson pioneers of Shippegan, Miscou and Lameque | New Brunswick Genealogy

 

This line of Chiassons became pioneers all around the area including Shippegan, Miscou, Lameque and Caraquet. The Shippegan founding couple were Nicolas Chiasson (son of Joseph Chiasson and Anne Hache) and Genevieve Gionet Gionais (daughter of Francois Gionet and Marie LeVicaire who had arrived originally from Prince Edward Island and were married in Caraquet in 1784. The first mention of this couple in Shippegan is from 1809 when they occupied a piece of land in the centre of the village. There’s even a stream named after then called “Ruisseau a Nicolas” (Nicolas’ Stream). Continue reading
