Donat Robichaud’s Le Grand Chipagan: Histoire de Shippagan, supplemented with genealogical data from F. Theriault’s Les Families de Caraquet and is now being gradually enriched with information from other sources. Francois Duguay (son of Rene Duguay and Marguerite Lebreton of Paspebiac) and Madeleine Chapados (daughter of Jean Chapados and Catherine Larocque) are the Duguay founding couple in Shippagan, New Brunswick. Francois had arrived in Shippagan in 1791 with his brother Jacquot Duguay (m. Veronique Chapados) and brother-in-law Jean Mallet. They were among those in the Acadian Diaspora who had fled from Pisiquit, towards Restigouche and finally Shippagan.
