These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. Jean-Baptiste Leclerc, son of  Jean-Baptiste Leclerc and Marie-Josette Duval first married Marie Frigault, daughter of Pierre Frigault and Josette Bouthillier in 1790. Jean-Baptiste Leclerc and Marie Frigault had one child, a daughter named Rose. Continue reading

Pierre Robert and Emilie Albert had the following children:

  • Marie (m. Francois-D’Assise Hebert, son of Dominique Hebert and Colette Duguay),
  • Clotilde (m. Joseph Hebert, son of Joseph Hebert and Olive Mallet),
  • Pierre (m. Philomene Vienneau) and then (Marie Gionet, daughter of Daniel Gionet and Marie Chiasson),
  • Isaac (m. Louise Goupil, daughter of Joseph Goupil  and Rose Saint-Coeur),
  • Pierre Philias (m. Emilie Gionet, daughter of Andre Gionet and Catherine Frigault).

William Drisdelle and Marie Mallet had two children – William Guillaume born in 1826 and Anne born two years later.  Donat Robichaud lists no marriages for these Drisdelles. Continue reading

The earliest couples named Leclerc in Shippagan were Edouard Leclerc (m. Elisabeth Mallet, daughter of Joseph Mallet and Phoebe Duguay) and later (m. Marie Roussel, daughter of Henri Roussel and Melanie Basque) and finally (m. Catherine Robichaud, daughter of Dosithe Robichaud and Judith Chiasson) and Georges Leclerc (m. Louise Mallet, daughter of Euloge Mallet and Marie Theriault)

The Leclerc brothers were both sons of Joseph Leclerc and Marie Chiasson.

These are the two earliest Paulin (Poulin) couples in Shippagan.

  • Fidele Paulin (probably from the Caraquet Paulins who descend from Jean-Baptiste Poulin of Rimouski, Quebec) and Caroline Robichaud  had the following children:
  • Alphonse (m. Obeline Chiasson, daughter of Agricole Chiasson and Marie Caissie),
  • Louis,
  • Marie (m. Jean-Bte Robichaud, son of Gervais Robichaud and Angele Mallet),
  • Beatrice,
  • Adonise Agnes (m. Fidele Duguay, son of Fabien Duguay and Veronique Mallet),
  • Augustin (m. Basilice Duguay,  daughter of Tranquille Duguay and Marie Chiasson),
  • Hortense, 
  • Georges (m. Marie Hache, daughter of Eutrope Hache and Hortense Poulin),
  • Peter (m. Elisabeth Duguay, daughter of Tranquille Duguay and Emilie Carey)
  • Francois

 

Romain Poulin (m. Victoire Theriault). The couple’s children included:

  • Geoffrey (m. Elisabeth Poirier, daughter of Edmond Poirier and M. Madeleine Clement) and then (m. Marie Duguay, daughter of Vital Duguay and Angele Hebert),
  • Martin (m. Constance Mallet, daughter of Charles Mallet and Olive Drysdale),
  • Marie Philomene (m. Gervais Hebert, son of Moise Hebert and Theotiste Godin),
  • Basile (who died at a young age),
  • M. Sephonie (died in infancy),
  • Madeleine

William Lumbsden arrived in Shippegan from England before 1840. He was an Anglican and married Elisabeth Witzell (daughter of William Witzell and Mary Topham) around 1840. Continue reading
