The Beaulieus | Pioneers of Caraquet

Caraquet PioneersThe Caraquet Beaulieus  descend from three marriages: Olivier Beaulieu and his first wife Marguerite Laviolette, and second wife Scholastique Mallet, daughter of Jean Mallet and Anne Gionet) and his third wife Henriette Martin. It’s believed that Olivier Beaulieu was a Quebec fisherman and was probably from Kamouraska.

Olivier Beaulieu and Marguerite Laviolette had only one child – Marie (m. Dosithee Comeau, daughter of Athanase Comeau and Madeleine Thibodeau).

Olivier and his second wife Scholastique Mallet had three children: Angele (m. Daniel Savoie, formerly married to Osithe Saint-Pierre), Marie (m. Vital Paulin) and Jean.

Oliver’s third wife Henriette Martin (widow of Pierre Allaire) gave him two children – Marie Henriette and Marie Emond. Continue reading

The Roussels | Pioneer Families of Shippegan

The founding Roussels in Goulet were Simon Roussel (son of Didier Roussel and Madeleine Hache) who married Barbe Thebeau (daughter of Mathurin Thebeau and Catherine Duval) on February 21st, 1814.

Their children included: Basile (m. Sara Mallet)Anne, Lazare (m. Marie McGrath, daughter of Urbain McGrath and Euphorisme Brideau) and probably the Henri Roussel  who married Celanie or Melanie Pelagie Basque. Continue reading

The Goupils | Pioneer Families of Shippegan

Joseph Goupil (son of Joseph Goupil and his third wife Barbe Poulin, daughter of Louis Poulin and Helene Chiasson)  and his first wife Cordule Brideau had the following children: AnneEliseeDinaPierreCharlotte (m. Osias Duguay), TheotisteVictoire (m. Luc Lanteigne, son of Michel Lanteigne and Virginie Savoie). Joseph Goupil was the son of Joseph Goupil  and Madeleine Theriault dit Grandmaison of Quebec. He was the captain of a goblet (the Mary-Anne which travelled between Halifax, Labrador and Newfoundland. Continue reading

Donat Robichaud says that the Shippegan Courtes are believed to be descended from the Paspebiac, Quebec Courtais line who came originally from Bretagne (France). The Chiassons | Pioneer Families of Shippegan

This line of Chiassons became pioneers all around the area including Shippegan, Miscou, Lameque and Caraquet. The Shippegan founding couple were Nicolas Chiasson (son of Joseph Chiasson and Anne Hache) and Genevieve Gionet Gionais (daughter of Francois Gionet and Marie LeVicaire who had arrived originally from Prince Edward Island and were married in Caraquet in 1784. The first mention of this couple in Shippegan is from 1809 when they occupied a piece of land in the centre of the village. There’s even a stream named after then called “Ruisseau a Nicolas” (Nicolas’ Stream). Continue reading

Jean Baptiste Paquet (son of Augustin Paquet and Catherine Tourangeau) was from St. Roch, Quebec. Jean Baptiste married Mary Marguerite Knowles (daughter of George Knowles of Norfolk, England and M.
