These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most of the information is drawn from Fidele Theriault’s genealogical dictionary “Les Familles de Caraquet”. His book is in French and offers a lot more information including family trees of the first generations (with precise dates)  and in many cases explanations of how the first pioneers arrived in Caraquet and other fascinating anecdotes. There were two early McGraw pioneer couples.

Most of the earliest Haches in Shippegan descended from Louis Hache and Anne Chiasson who settled in Shippagan with their three sons Joseph, Jean-Bte and Louis. Most branches of the family moved on to other areas but Robichaud gives details about one branch that were present at the time of the 1871 census. Continue reading

The Lacroixs | Pioneers of Caraquet

These micro posts present the first generation of each of the families that established different surnames found in Caraquet, New Brunswick. The first Lacroixs in Caraquet were Jean Lacroix (parents unknown) his first wife Jeanne die Jeanneton Albert (daughter of Gabriel Albert and Angelique Bouthillier) and his second wife Adelaide Hebert (daughter of Jean Hebert and Rose Cyr).

 

Jean Lacroix and Jeanne Albert had the following children:

  • Ambroise
  • Andre
  • Marie (m. Andre Larocque, son of Francois  Larocque and Marie Morais)
  • Felicity
  • Sara

 

Jean Lacroix and Adelaide Hebert had these children:

  • Jean Olivier (m. Marie Mcgrath),
  • Vital,
  • Marguerite Osithe (m. Agapit Albert, son of Isaac Albert and Osithe Mailloux),
  • Jean Octave (m. Seraphie Gionet, daughter of Charles Gionet
     and Genevieve Lebreton),
  • Eloi

Roussel Genealogy | founding family of Shippegan, New Brunswick

 

The founding Roussels in Goulet were Simon Roussel (son of Didier Roussel and Madeleine Hache) who married Barbe Thebeau (daughter of Mathurin Thebeau and Catherine Duval) on February 21st, 1814.

Their children included:

  • Basile (m. Sara Mallet),
  • Anne,
  • Lazare (m. Marie McGrath, daughter of Urbain McGrath and Euphorisme Brideau) and probably the
  • Henri Roussel  who married Celanie or Melanie Pelagie Basque.

The Boucher founding family of Shippegan (Chaleurs Bay, New Brunswick)

 

The first Bouchers in Shippegan were William Boucher (son of Desire Boucher and Cleante Lanteigne)  and Venerante Robichaud (widow of Charles DelaGarde). William’s parents were from Caraquet and descended from Joseph Boucher and Elisabeth Martin whose offspring settled in Caraquet, Bathurst, Couctouche and then Grande-Anse, Inkerman and as stated above, Shippegan.

 

William and Venerante had the following offspring:

  • M. Philomene,
  • Joseph (m. Emilie Robichaud, daughter of Georges Robichaud and Philomene DeGrace
  • Vitaline Hache, daughter of Israel Hache and Olive McGrath).
