The Indian Act of 1876 provides that no person other than those of Indian origin shall reside with the Indian reserves, and for some time a contest has been waged to carry the law literally into effect. Elphege Charette married Beatrice Ranger on September 24th, 1925 in Lachine. Lachine is on the Island of Montreal and the name of the parish was Saintes-Anges. Elphege was the son of Francois Charette and Angelina Picard while Beatrice was the daughter of Exalem Ranger and Ledia Dion.
Francois Charette married Marie-Angelina Picard in the same parish as above. They were married on November 19th, 1895. Francois’ parents were Jean Baptiste Charette and Philomene Cardinal while Marie-Angelina was the daughter of Ephrem Picard and Marie-Ozeline Meloche.
