Fatal Fire at Caughnawaga in the Early Morning
Montreal, May 1 — Fire broke out early this morning in the Indian village of Caughnawaga, near Lachine, and resulted in a tragedy. The house was that of Mr. Isaac Normand, a white man, who had married an Indian girl and was received into the tribe. His father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stacey, Indians, were in the burning building and neighbours rescued the old man but could not find the woman. In less than abhor the house was burned to the ground and the charred remains of Mrs. Stacey were found in the ruins.
