The Chiassons are one of the oldest Acadian families in Canada. The Caraquet Chiassons descend from  Guyon Chiasson dit Lavallee (son of Pierre Chiasson and Marie Peroche of La Rochelle, France) and Marie Belliveau (daughter of Antoine Belliveau and Andree Guyon) who were married in Port-Royal, Acadia about 1665. Georges Sivret (from Jersey, Channel Islands) married Angelique Forest in Arichet, Cape-Breton and then Scolastique (Colette) Chiasson (daughter of Paul Chiasson and Isabelle Roussi).

 

Georges and Angelique had the following children:

  • Georges (m. Appoline Chiasson, daughter of Paul Chiasson and Elisabeth Roussi),
  • Jacques (James) (m. Lucille Theriault),
  • William (m. Seraphie Chiasson, daughter of Romain Chiasson and Marie Frigault) and then (m. Marie-Blondine Gionet, daughter of Francois Gionet and Marie Boucher).

Caraquet history

 

The first Gionets to settle in Caraquet were Francois Gionet and his first wife Marie LeVicaire (daughter of Pierre LeVicaire and Francoise Rousseau).

 

Their children were:

  • Pierre (m. Anne Robert dit LeBreton, daughter of Pierre Francois dit LeBreton and Therese Boise and then Marguerite Frigault, daughter of Pierre Frigault and Josette Bouthillier),
  • Genevieve (m. Nicolas Chiasson, son of Joseph Chiasson  and Anne Hache), 
  • Francois (m. Marie Roussi, daughter of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau),
  • Marguerite (m. Francois Robert dit Lebreton, son of Francois Robert dit Lebreton and Therese Boise),
  • Madeleine (m. Julien Robert dit LeBreton, son of Francois Robert dit Lebreton and Therese Boise),
  • Jean (m. Veronique Duguay, daughter of Francois Duguay and Madeleine Chapadeau),
  • Anne-Marie (m. Jean-Baptiste Mallet, son of Jean Mallet and Marie Duguay),
  • Marie (m. Alexandre Morais, son of Jacques Morais and Agnes Lebouthillier),
  • Felicite (m. Joseph Mallet, son of Jean Marie Mallet and Marie Duguay),
  • Charles (m. Felicite Duguay, son of Francois Duguay and Madeleine Chapadeau) and then (m. Genevieve Robert dit Lebreton, daughter of Rene Robert dit LeBreton, daughter of Rene Robert dit LeBreton and Anne Hebert)
  • Victoria (m. Julien Mallet, son of Jean Mallet and Marie Duguay).

Francois Gionet married a second time to Marie Albert but the couple had no children.

The Parise pioneering couple descended from Quebeckers from St-Louis-de-Kamouraska. Michel-Ignace Parise was the son of Gilles Parise and Julienne Chevrier of Paris, France. He married  Angelique Michaud, daughter of Pierre Michaud and Madeleine Lalime Thibodeau. Their children included: Genevieve, Michel (m. Marie Albert, daughter of Gabriel Albert and Genevieve Bouthillier), Angelique, Marie, Rosalie, Louis, Remi and finally Agathe. Michel-Ignace’s son Michel Parise married Marie Albert (daughter of Gabriel Albert and Genevieve Bouthillier).

 

The Caraquet children of Michel Parise and Marie Albert were:

  • Genevieve (m. Pierre-Leon Roussi, son of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau),
  • Michel (m. Rosalie Roussi, daughter of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau, and then Louise Grenier),
  • Angelique (m. Louis Roussi, son of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau and then
  • Francois Duguay, son of Francois Duguay and Madeleine Chapadeau),
  • Marie (m. Jean Lanteigne, son of Louis Lanteigne and Marguerite Chapadeau),
  • Rosalie (m. Pierre Paulin, son of Jean-Baptiste Paulin and Isabelle Gasse),
  • Louis (m. Madeleine Roussi, daughter of Leon Roussi and Anne Chapadeau),
  • Remi (m. Archange Duguay, daughter of Pierre Duguay and Josette LeBrasseur),
  • Agathe (m. Edouard Bouthillier, son of Rene Bouthillier and Genevieve Chiasson).
