The Gionets | New Brunswick pioneers | founders of Shippegan

The Gionets are relative latecomers to Shippegan. Robichaud and Theriault both cite Cyrenus Cerenus Gionet (son of Octave Gionet and Marcelline Lanteigne), his first wife Basilica Allain (daughter of Louis Allain and Marguerite Cooke) and his  second wife – Anastasie Paulin as the earliest Gionets in Shippegan. They seem to appear in the 1901 Shippegan census as Cyrinus and Anastasia Jionet – as do a certain number of  other Gionets however I haven’t found any children for these two specific couples yet!

Notes: This series of posts is based on information found in Le Grand Chikpagan: Histoire de Shippagan by Donat Robichaud, and will be gradually supplemented with information  from Fidele Theriault’s Les Families de Caraquet and other sources.
