French Canadian couple Jean Baptiste / Pierre Ledoux and Saulteaux First Nations woman Madeleine are the founding couple of one Metis lineage in Red River county. their offspring included: Antoine Ledoux (m. Marie Falcon), Eusebe Ledoux (m. Suzanne Bonneau, Louise Desjarlais), Jean Baptiste Ledoux (m. Francoise Lacouture), Pierre Ledoux (m. Suzanne Short, Marie Desjarlais).
    • 2. The 1885 North-West Resistance by the Metis and the Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika peoples took place against a backdrop of starvation, broken treaties and encroachment by new settlers in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The resistance fighters eventually lost and Canada’s federal government asserted its control over the area.   A dozen Metis Ledouxs (or their spouses) were  involved in the Resistance. They were: Alexis Ledoux (m. Clemence Fleury), Catherine Ledoux (m. Maxime Dubois), Euphrosine Ledoux (m. Antoine Allard), Flavie Ledoux (m. Baptiste Bousquet), Francoise Ledoux (m.
