  • 1. The western Canadian Metis Racettes descend from Charles Racette (son of Pierre Raceme & Angelique Defoy of St. Augustine des Desmaires, Quebec) and his First Nations wife Josephte through their offspring: Charles Racette (m. Reine Boucher), George Racette (m. Francoise Gilbeau), Marie Angelique Raceme (m. Joseph Adam, Robert Henry & George McPherson) and Margaret Racette (m. James Swain).
  • 2.  Eight Racettes (or their spouses) took part in the 1885 Resistance: They were: Charles Racette (m. Helene Boyer), Charles Racette  (m. Mary-Jane Ouelette), Jerome Racette (m. Caroline Nolin), Marguerite Racette (m. Josephte Desnomie), Marie-Rose Racette (m. Leon Ferguson), Abraham Ouellette (Virginie Racette) and William Racette (m. Betsy Bourassa). The 1885 North-West Resistance included Metis and other indigenous peoples (Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika) and was in response to broken treaties, starvation and encroachment on their lands by new settlers in what are now Saskatchewan and Alberta.
