This is a series of micro posts about the pioneers of Shippagan in Gloucester County, New Brunswick. Each post is organized around initial information from Msg. Donat Robichaud’s Le Grand Chipagan: Histoire de Shippagan, supplemented with genealogical data from F. Theriault’s Les Families de Caraquet and is now being gradually enriched with information from other sources. These are mostly French-language sources and some aren’t easily available, so if you need more information please leave your questions in a comment box below  🙂

Noel Family Pioneers in Shippegan, New Brunswick | Genealogy

 

The first Noels in Shippegan were Jean-Bernard Noel (son of Benoit Noel and Agathe Parent) and his two wives Genevieve Cote and then Marie Garant. They were settled on Lameque Island. Jean Noel (as he was known) and Agathe Parent had at least the following children:  Francois (m. Joseph Poulin, son of Joseph Poulin and Marie-Louise Chiasson), Genevieve (m. David Hache, son of Joseph Hache and Scolastique Chiasson)Louise (m. Joseph Boudreau), Jacques (m. Pelagie Duclos, daughter of Pierre Duclos and Marguerite Richard), Paul (m. Rufine Duclos,  also a daughter of Pierre Duclos and Marguerite Richard).

 

Jean Noel and Marie Garant’s children included:

  • Amable (m. Edesse Doiron),
  • Joseph, 
  • Adelaide, 
  • Honore (m. Salome Hache),
  • Osite (m. Narcisse Jean, son of Pierre Jean and Rose Lepage).
