  • 1.  The Riverin surname originated with the couple Antoine Riverin  (aka  Ustshinitshiu) and Louise Dery (m. August 26th, 1772, L’Ancienne-Lorette, QC) through descendants who intermarried with the Montagnais.  
  • 2.  My marriage database contains both Innu Montagnais First Nations individuals as well as mixed Montagnais / French marriages as listed in a study by the Communauté Métisse du Domaine du Roy et de la Seigneurie de Mingan.  Some mixed French/Montagnais descendants self-identify as Metis (see Etienne Rivard’s discussion paper). Riverin can also be spelled Riverain.
