- 1. Note: Francois or Francois-Xavier Villot and/or Latour aka Veillot (son of Joseph Villot and Madeleine Deschamps) married Elizabeth McGregor (daughter of Robert McGregor and Marie Riel). Elizabeth’s mother Marie Riel, also known as Marie Chipakijnkokwe, was of the Ojibwa / Chippewa nation. So, the children of the Latour / McGregor union are of mixed-heritage. On marriage certificates, I’ve seen their offspring appear with the Latour, Villot and Veillot surnames. These Villot/Veillot marriages are listed in the database (see links below). The marriages I’ve found were: Elizabeth / Isabelle (m. Robert Francois), Marcelline (m. Joseph Cyr), Josephine (m. Fernand Gladu), Emerence (m. Louis-de-Gonzague Pedneau), Maxime (m. Emilie Mercier). Online family trees list a few more marriages which I haven’t yet located so they are not included.
- 2 : Francois Villot /Latour remarried and the offspring by his second wife Elmire St. Germain use the Latour surname.
- 3. Hudson’s Bay Company has a service record for Louis Latour / Ballard who worked as a Middleman in the districts of Columbia, Fort Simpson (Nass) and Nisqually where he married a First Nations woman named Betsey. You can scroll down to External Links for more information. Note: HBC service records relate to employees who worked in traditional indigenous territories and who may or may not have started mixed-heritage families.
