- Misc.: 1. The earliest Algonquin Chalifoux in the region of Maniwaki are the voyageur Benjamin Chalifoux and his wife Julie Carriere. There are service records for three Chalifouxs in the Hudson’s Bay Archives. Andre Chalifoux was a steersma and then a guide in the district of Columbia. Jean Baptiste Chalifoux was a Midman, then Carpenter and finally a labourer in Fort Vancouver, Stikine and then Nisqually. Finally, Michel Chalifoux was a voyageur and then a Freeman around Fort Dauphin and then Grantown. The earliest Algonquin Chalifoux in the region of Maniwaki are the voyageur Benjamin Chalifoux and his wife Julie Carriere. The Hudson’s Bay archives have service records for Andre, Jean Baptiste and Michel Chalifoux. Scroll down for External Links. Note: HBC service records relate to employees who worked in traditional indigenous territories and who may or may not have started mixed-heritage families. 3. The Chalifoux surname is frequently spelled with the final x dropped. Califoux without the h is another spelling I’ve come across a few times.

I am a Chalifoux! From the research I’ve done Michel Chalifoux is my 7 or 8th generation grandfather. My great-great grandma was a St. Arault. I recognized many of the associated names.
