  • 1. Many  Laplantes  (or their spouses) were involved in the 1885 North-West Resistance (formerly known as The North-West Rebellion). They were: Cuthbert Laplante (m. Elizabeth Piche), Jean Baptiste Laplante (m. Angelique Paul), Guillaume Laplante (m. Marguerite Sansregret), Josephte Laplante (m. Francois Fidler Sr.), Madeleine Laplante (m. Basile Plante), Marie Laplante (m. Alexis Gervais), Moise Laplante (m. Natalie Gervais) and Philomene Laplante (m. Pierre Lavalle), Toussaint Laplante (m. Elise Gervais) and Virginie Laplante (m. Ambroise Gariepy). The 1885 North-West Resistance included Metis and other indigenous peoples (Cree, Kainai, Piikani, Saulteaux and Siksika) and was in response to broken treaties, starvation and encroachment on their lands by new settlers in what are now Saskatchewan and Alberta. The resistance fighters were defeated and Canada’s federal government asserted its control over the area.    [Source: Veterans and Families of the 1885  Northwest Resistance, Lawrence Barkwell, Louis Riel Institute]. 2. The reason I looked through your work here is because I seen my g.grandmother Margaret Helen Causley and Louis Causley but I found nothing I feel the pretext was misleading and from my last comment I still have not heard from you about this. This is very important to me Thank You Kerry Milutin Bakersfield California
