Donat Robichaud’s Le Grand Chipagan: Histoire de Shippagan, supplemented with genealogical data from F. Theriault’s Les Families de Caraquet and is now being gradually enriched with information from other sources. Richard Duke and Sara Leger are the founding Duke couple in Shippegan.

Their children included:

  • Johnny (m. Elisabeth Noel, widow of Oxibe Hache),
  • Elisabeth Betsie (m. David Cowhic, a widower from New Bandon),
  • Catherine (m. George James Chiverton, son of George Chiverton and Eliza Catherine Alexander)
  • Année (m. George Guignard, widower of Caroline Forbes),
  • Richard (m. Salome Chiasson, daughter of Jean Chiasson and Pelagie Doiron),
  • Mary Jane ( m. Pierre Roy, son of Joseph Roy and Marie Doucet),
  • Joseph (m. Marie Guignard, daughter of Michel Guignard and Archange Hache).
